Track your Earnings
Tracking your earnings is quite important once you start to make an income on your writing. There are several ways to track your earnings, and one of the easiest ways to track your earnings is a simple spreadsheet. This will allow a quick view of earnings, which is especially important if you write for many websites. You will also need to track your earnings for tax purposes once you start rakin in the dough.
It is also important to track your earnings because all websites pay on a little different schedule. It may be monthly, weekly, or even if you hit a certain dollar amount. Keeping all of your earnings on a spreadsheet will allow you to take a quick peek at your totals, and keep everything in one place. Of course, you will want to back this information on disk or CD in case your computer crashes.
If certain companies pay via check, you will want to keep all of your check stubs for taxes as well. Sometimes you will not receive tax totals from websites if you do not reach $600 a year in earnings, but you still need to report them on your income taxes. Anything that you receive about earnings from all of your websites you will want to keep for reference, because you never know when you are going to need them. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
I bet you are thinking to yourself that you wish you had so much money coming in that it would be hard to track, but keeping up and staying dedicated to your writing will help you make the big bucks. You will be there in no time!
